The CEO of Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) Bangladesh, Najith Meewanage, acknowledges that Bangladesh’s progress toward a cashless economy is hindered by persistent cash usage due to established habits and infrastructure limitations. However, changing consumer behaviors and advancements in digital banking are driving the shift. He also highlights the necessity of government support in cybersecurity, financial literacy, and incentivizing digital adoption to ensure wider acceptance. True transformation will occur when digital payments are as instant, trusted, and widely accepted as cash, as exemplified by Singapore and Sweden.
